Ventfort Hall Mansion and Gilded Age Museum

Available as a filming location. In the summer of 1998, Miramax used the exterior of the Ventfort Hall mansion for the Oscar-winning film adaptation of John Irving's novel, Cider House Rules. Built in 1893 for the sister of J.P. Morgan and his cousin George Hale Morgan, it was designed in the style of a Jacobean or Elizabethan English Manor House. Now restored, its magnificent interiors feature wood panelling, elaborate plaster ceilings, and stained glasswork. It sits on 12 acres of land and has been designed with all the latest modern amenities, numerous ingeniously ventilated bathrooms, combined gas and electric light fixtures, an elevator, burglar alarms and central heating. 28,000 square feet, and 14 - 15 ft ceilings.
